Comments on Results of Application for Establishment Plans for Special Base Stations in the 900MHz Band and A Draft Guideline for Spectrum Allocation for the 700MHz Band
The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications ( " MIC " ) announced today the results of application for establishment plans for special base stations in the 900MHz band.
We are disappointed that the 900MHz band was not allocated to us.
Among four mobile operators in Japan, we are now the only one who has not been allocated any platinum band.
Platinum band is necessary for us to stay competitive in the mobile broadband market against the three existing major operators. In addition, platinum band is also critical for our business development to efficiently expand the service area as well as to respond to the traffic increase.
Therefore, we plan to apply for the 700MHz band based on the draft guideline announced by the MIC today. We understand that the spectrum policy for the 700MHz band is to promote the LTE service, similar to the 900MHz spectrum policy. We request that the MIC continues to ensure the spectrum equal-footing among the operators in the 700MHz band allocation process, as the MIC has done in the 900MHz allocation process.
